“It’s easy to be hard, it’s hard to be smart.” In Marine Force Recon, we were trained to be both but learned the value of making intelligent choices rather than rely only on our toughness. Thinking outside the box and being cunning in our approach to training, planning for and the execution of our mission was the staple of our mindset while having the privilege of serving with 1st Force Recon Company. This mindset has carried over into my career as a park ranger and peace officer lifeguard for California state parks. It has become somewhat of an obsession for me to progress the learning strategies of the subjects I taught in the Marine Corps and in my law enforcement job with the California park system.
I started out teaching emergency medicine for the parks more than 20 years ago. I developed a system that incorporated a mindset I called “lizard brain training.” This concept is explained in the Core Principles section of this site. The approach was unique at the time and was the culmination of all the experiences I gained from being a Force Recon Marine. That experience served me well for what became a wonderful career in California State Parks which ranged from patrol, to participating on a special enforcement task force eradicating marijuana in our parks and into the training section and instruction of various law enforcement subjects.
One of my proudest moments working for California State Parks was being recruited for the position of Training Officer for the peace officer training academy. I became an integral team member of an amazing group of individuals who supported my ideas and nurtured a sense of teamwork I only experienced in the Marine Corps. I owe them a debt of gratitude for their support.
With their help, I went to numerous courses and walked out of that role nearly 3 years later with new skills and various certifications for instructorship to include:
• Firearms Instructor and later Core Staff Firearms Trainer
• Tactics Instructor
• Report Writing Instructor
• Certificated Peace Officer Training Officer
• Academy Instructor Certificated Course Level II
• Tactical Rifle Instructor and received federal active shooter training with FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Courses)
These certifications were a great addition to what I had before I served a as academy staff which was:
• Emergency Training Technician Core Staff Instructor
• Tactical Medicine Instructor
• Tracker Certification from Homeland Security
In short, my skills and training have been diverse, but my true love is teaching basic firearm training to police, military and women and men from all walks of life that see the importance of our 2nd amendment right to bear arms and to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
This basic right as Americans has never been more important in light of all the struggles our citizens are going through. I honestly feel that this has been my calling for quite a while now, is to teach and lead folks in responsible gun ownership and appropriate firearm safety and skills.
I love my country with every ounce of my heart and soul. I served in the Marine Corps and pushed myself to become an operator in a special force team because I wanted to give back to my country for all that it has given me. I survived my first 9 years in the Communist dictatorship of Romania.
I know first hand what it feels like to be oppressed and to have no rights whatsoever. “Freedom is Not Free” as the old saying goes and it’s true. Our 2nd amendment is one of many gifts our forefathers have given us. It is our responsibility to be responsible stewards of this right. I want to do my part and share my experience and skills with you. I am constantly striving for improvement as an instructor and wish to make the training as affordable as I can make it to allow access to the greatest number of people.
This website is the continuation of my ongoing commitment to serving my beloved country. I took an oath to defend the United States of America from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.
I invite you to join me in this ongoing struggle.
